6 Essential Pilates Principles
Pilates requires focus on your mind-body awareness. To obtain maximum value from each movement, you need to concentrate on your entire body and how it moves. How you do the exercise is more important than the exercise itself.
In Pilates, control is the key element. So perform your exercise slowly and steadily. This means you need to do each exercise with a complete muscular control and deliberately.
Pilates is coordinated with breathing to be effective. Control your breath in order to fully inhale and exhale. Deep breathing helps your body activate muscles properly.
Pilates movements should begin from the center and move outward of the limbs. The large group of muscles in the abdomen, lower back, inner thighs, hips, and buttocks are considered the center of your body. They are also called the “powerhouse”.
Practice makes perfect. An appropriate placement, alignment, and trajectory for each part of the body should be pursued here. By practicing, you will improve your movements close to perfection.
The Pilates movements are done in a flowing manner. Perform each exercise smoothly and gracefully. By doing so, the energy of an exercise flows through the body.
