Bad breath is the common name for the medical condition known as halitosis . There are many different things that can cause halitosis - from not brushing your teeth to certain medical conditions.

Here are three common causes of bad breath:
- Dental decay or gum disease.
- Food stagnation between the teeth.
- Throat or tonsil infection.
- Catarrh.
- Bronchitis.
- Sinusitis.
- Gastritis (inflammation of mucous membrane that lines the stomach).
Traditional Medical Treatments for Bad Breath
First and most obviously, pay close attention to your oral and dental hygiene: brush and floss frequently, as recommended by your dentist.
- Use a mouthwash recommended by your dentist.
- Clean your mouth after eating milk products, fish and meat, that includes brushing your tongue.
- Eat fresh vegetables.
- Drink plenty of fluids, but cut down on coffee.
- Chew sugar-free gum, especially if your mouth feels dry.
- Don't smoke cigarettes.
- Visit your dentist regularly.
